JK as Robbie Review Buxton. February 2004
"Are you with me? I've been away from Buxton for too long - and now I'm back I can't wait to return again and again."
The opening words of JK as Robbie were echoed by those who know and enjoy his show and those JK virgins, now converted to their very own Robster.
Having had the privilege of witnessing the other Robbie - a certain Mr Williams - performing, I felt a déjà vu experience. How similar are the respected shows?
From the moment he opened with "Let me Entertain You" the Eagle crowd erupted with hand-waving, lighter-swinging, happy faces and delightfully bad harmonies.
Girls took him up on his suggestions, as they displayed various parts of their anatomy for his approval.
As the ultimate tribute to Mr. Williams this guy is no impostor of a performer, he doesn't just sing - he entertains you. He hit every note, cheesy smiled every cheesy Robbie smile, thrust every pelvic thrust, sang all the right songs and even had the Eagle men joining in. Right through to his frighteningly accurate and majestic "Angels" led encore, he completed 15 numbers along with an extra helping of "My Way" to close the show. His band did not look as though they were playing together for the first time and the thought that they can only improve astounds.
Adapting the song list to fit the occasion made for some daring choices. JK is about to embark on a National Tour after his record breaking residency in Spain, Denmark and Europe he wanted to see how a variety of styles and songs were received. He needn't have had any concerns "Come Undone" is something that will never happen to this excellent showman. "We Will Rock You" brought the audience and artist even closer together as we tried to rock JK. But nothing could put this man off his stride and indeed when he ripped into "Something Beautiful" it certainly felt just that.
Just at that point the largest, widest man I've seen in the Eagle for a while - and let's face it there have been a few over the years, looked at JK then straight at me and whispered like an excited 15 year old girl that he couldn't wait for "Angels". Tough - he had to wait, but it was worth it. I just kept thinking "Betterman". I doubt if there is any one better, man.
With all sorts of announcements regarding his background, ambitions and dreams JK carried us with him all the way and I'm not one to get carried away, unless of course they're wearing white coats. I won't pre-empt what the Williams doppelganger plans but if you want to check out www.jkasrobbie.com you'll get up to date information on the man who would be the Bloke from Stoke.
I'm not too sure if the original Robbie could muster such an overwhelming response. Well all right he could. But he's Robbie Williams. At least our man can be both and only he is JK. Our man has an undoubted presence and by that, I mean that not only is he comfortable being on the stage but his audience is comfortable with him being on the stage too. Compared to some who take themselves seriously and shouldn't, JK is one of those who doesn't take him self seriously and could.
You know when somebody has That something. He does. JK should just Take That and Party.
Not just a Bloke-from-Stoke look-a-like, as the ultimate tribute to Mr. Williams this guy is no impostor of a performer, he doesn't just sing - he entertains you and there is no Better Man...

JK as Robbie Review Mr Kyps live music venue 2005
Up until a few weeks ago I had never been to Mr Kyps, but it seems I am becoming addicted to the place and who can wonder the artists they have there are simply the best ! JK as Robbie Williams, what can I say ? ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! Everyone I had met previously at Mr Kyps said it was a gig not to be missed and they were SOoooo right.
My girlfriends and I (oh and the one obligatory boyfriend RW fan) arrived in plenty of time for the gig to bag our place. In true RW style the anticipation was starting to get to us, when in a blaze of light and noise the classic opener 'Let me Entertain You' started what was to become a fantastic night. One girlfriend said to me 'If you hadn't told me it wasn't the real RW I wouldn’t have known'! All the great RW tracks were there, but most importantly what made the show so brilliant was the mannerisms and charisma of JK which makes it so much more than just being someone on stage singing RW tracks.
For me and one other girlfriend (who is totally Robbie mad by the way) we were reliving our trip to Knebworth 2 years ago. We had not managed to get anywhere near the real RW, but she more than made up for it by getting up on the stage and kissing JK at the end of the show! Then later as JK mingled with his fans at the end of the night she insisted that we had our photo taken with the ever obliging JK. We're just hoping that the girl from LA we bumped into (yes Mr Kyps had an international crowd last night) doesn't lose the piece of paper with our email addresses on! JK you are superb and I look forward to you returning to Mr Kyps very soon.

JK as Robbie Review Poole Park festival 2007
The crowd now waited in anticipation for the main act of the day, JK as Robbie Williams. Anybody who has been to a JK gig will know it's a special occasion and the atmosphere is always electric.
He arrived to ecstatic applause from the fans, and duly turned in another flawless performance. When a guy comes on and presents his "musical director" to the crowd you know it's not going to be a run of the mill tribute!!
The show kicked off with "Let Me Entertain You" and boy he sure did! The back catalogue of Robbies hits followed interspliced with some rat pack swing in "Mack the Knife",
JK's shows have been seen in fourteen countries but I bet the atmosphere generated at the Poole Park gig must have been the best ever. The crowd danced the band played and the sun shone, what more could you ask for?

One Night Of Robbie (Stage show) starring JK 2007
FROM the very back of the Grand Theatre, it could have been Robbie Williams himself.
The shock of black hair, the cheeky grin, the mannerisms, the wisecracks, the wacky dance steps – Robbie impersonator JK looked and acted so much like the real thing, he could have fooled even the keenest eye into believing he really was.
Close-up it's a different story, but from distance – and taking into account that my vision isn't the best – this was the most accurate likeness I have ever seen from a musical tribute act.
But looking like Robbie Williams and being able to perform like him, and hold a packed audience in the palm of his hand just like the consummate modern-day live entertainer has done time and again at Knebworth, Live 8 and beyond, are two completely different kettles of fish.
He looked a little unsure at the start. A 15-minute delay due to sound
problems didn't help, as JK bounded onto stage and launched a little
nervously into 'Let Me Entertain You'.
At first, he seemed to lack the real Robbie's overpowering charisma and ability to work the entire stage from end-to-end.
Turns out he just needed some time to warm up. By his third song, 'Hot Fudge' off the Robster's best ever album 'Escapology', JK was exuding all the cocky confidence of the real Mr Williams.
Within minutes almost the entire audience was on its feet, singing, clapping and swaying along to classics like 'Feel', 'Strong' and 'Millennium'.
"Come on Lancaster, bounce!" he yelled at one point, which was perhaps bad advice to those of us in the balcony, which felt on the verge of collapse from the vigorous pounding of feet.
But the stalls survived this mini-earthquake and in the second-half, JK turned the boundless energy down a notch for a series of songs from the 'Swing When You're Winning' album.
Dapper in a tux, he pulled this off perfectly, assisted by the excellent backing band. With his rendition of 'My Way', in particular, he showed he might actually have a better voice than THE Robbie.
Then he finished off a fantastic evening's entertainment with 'She's The One', 'Kids', 'Suspicious Minds', 'Rock DJ' and of course, 'Angels'.
In between JK engaged in some typical Robbie banter with the audience, at one point inviting Carol Kitching from Carnforth – who he said was one of his most devoted fans – onto stage for a cuddle mid-song. Then afterwards he stayed behind and signed merchandise for his fans, where he probably had to fend off a few propositions from the predominantly female audience. Overall this was tremendous fun, a recreation of a Robbie Williams live show that was about as true-to-life as it can possibly get.
With 200 people apparently on a waiting list, and with the Grand's bar facilities perhaps a little small and genteel to cope with the deluge of 'hen night' types this kind of gig attracts (there were a few excitable 'ladies' being far too pushy, rude and rowdy at the bar – this was the Grand Theatre after all, not Blackpool at closing time), I personally would like to see the bigger Dome book 'One Night of Robbie' should JK return to our area in future.
But in the meantime, the Grand deserves much credit for staging such a marvellous Saturday night out – one of two sell-out, high quality shows at the theatre last weekend.
Tributes can be hit-and-miss, but JK as Robbie Williams was definitely a big, big hit.

JK as Robbie review Mr Kyps live music venue 2008
Well, Mr Kyps, what an absolutely fantastic night on Saturday. JK as Robbie Williams. Had heard so much about this guy and he more than exceeded our expectations and some. He was beyond total brilliance. True to form we got there early to savour the atmosphere that could only be Mr Kyps - the special ambience as soon as you walk through the door. Then, when I couldn’t stand the excitement any longer and I was about to go backstage and drag him out myself, he appeared.
I could not believe what I was seeing. Mr Robbie Williams had just entered the building. OK, so, we have the look, wonder what he sings like? Opening song, Let Me Entertain You, say no more, blew me away.
A bit of Robbie banter with the audience, blimey he even talks like him. The perfect Robbie smirk, the cheeky eying up the audience, the waddling along the stage, this is getting silly, he even has his mannerisms down to a tee. He then reeled off hit after hit to perfection – a mixture of his own stuff and the swing classics. The audience were going wild. What a show. He was on stage for nearly 2 hours non-stop, that’s one hell of a performance.
So, believe everything you read about JK, he is awesome. If you are a Robbie fan and have not got round to seeing JK perform yet, keep an eye out for his next visit to Mr Kyps and make sure you put it in your diary, you will not be disappointed !!!

JK as Robbie Williams
Childrens special matinee performance 23/01/2010
My grandaughter needed to see Robbie Williams. OK says I, not really knowing anything about him, and not knowing what I was letting myself in for! My last thought was, 'I hope he's not Welsh!' On entry to Mr.Kyps, what a welcome from the staff. The whole club was buzzing with excitement, and not just the youngsters either. All those mums must have bribed their children so that they could 'escort' them into the Club? Special Matinee prices at the bar for the young adults too. Music from the D.J. pretty good stuff as well. The ambience and lighting showed off the Hall and its' restored look, with a nice sized dance area centrally set in front of the stage.
The band drifted onto the stage and then the majestic music started, Carmina Burana by Karl Orff. What on earth I thought? Then on came the Cheeky Chappy himself and the programme was up and running. Fantastic start and the whole set just kept getting better and better. Terrific musicians fronted by JK, who was for us all, Robbie. His looks, mannerisms, quick witted charm and that wonderful voice swept the audience along with him and even found time to speak to the youngsters. One young man in particular was hoisted up onto the stage with the band, because he was 4 years old and wanted to be a drummer. He was duly presented with a souvenir drumstick as he sped back to his family.
This was a top show by a band of gifted musicians and with JK as Robbie fronting them with all the people skills and charm that we associate with Robbie himself. He sang for us all, the young adults, and their mums and dads. He even did a walkabout of the dance floor to warn all the kids how eventually you will end up dancing just like the adults here today. Once again his easy going charm took any sting from his joking. All his major hits were sung and although I only knew 'Millenium' and 'Angels' they were all equally as good a performance as you could wish for, and he gave us the full works! I wasn't evenaware I knew the any of the words, but I joined in! I'm now a fan of the man, so thank you JK for that, it was a magical afternoon.
